First Time Orders in Illinois

For the most part, 2020 has been a dumpster fire. One bright light in the darkness of this year is that cannabis is legal in Illinois. In January (remember January?!), dispensaries across Illinois welcomed rec customers who were waiting in lines for hours just partake in their legal right to purchase and use cannabis. Then came the global pandemic with lockdowns, personal protective equipment and heavily reduced workforces.

But we’ve made it work! Cannabis businesses, including dispensaries, were considered essential (thanks medical patients!) and we’ve made a lot of changes to continue serving our loyal customers. To everyone who have purchased from us in the past few months, thank you! To those who haven’t, we’re assuming that’s just because you were unsure how.

We are asking that all purchasers, medical and recreational, place their orders online at consumecannabis.com. Once you’ve made it to the website, confirmed that you are at least 21 years old and made it to the list of dispensaries in Illinois, then you can select the appropriate menu. If you do not have a medical cannabis card, choose the recreational menu at the Consume dispensary nearest to you. If you do have a medical cannabis card or are a registered caregiver, select the medical menu at the Consume dispensary nearest you.

Now that you’re at the menu, checking out all the amazing products, you should know your purchase limits. If you’re an Illinois resident, you can purchase:

o   Up to 30 grams of cannabis flower.

o   Up to 500 milligrams of THC in a cannabis-infused product, basically anything that falls under the edible or topical categories.

o   Up to 5 grams of cannabis concentrate.

If you’re from out of state, you can purchase

o   Up to 15 grams of cannabis flower.

o   Up to 250 milligrams of THC in a cannabis-infused product, basically anything that falls under the edible or topical categories.

o   Up to 2.5 grams of cannabis concentrate.

This is also a good time to mention that you can only purchase for yourself. We can not sell to you if you are ordering for someone else or a minor. Don’t be that guy/girl.

Our online menu has a bunch of different options for searching available products so you can find exactly what you’re looking for. You can search by category, THC potency, brand, and lineage. If you’re looking for a specific product, try using the search bar. Once you’ve added your items to the cart, you can check out and choose a time to pick up your order. You will receive a text message that confirms your order has been placed.

To pick up your order, you will need:

o   Cash or your debit card to take out cash from our on-site ATM – your total online includes all taxes, so you’ll know exactly how much your order costs before you even get there.

o   Your driver’s license, state ID or passport – due to the coronavirus, most states have extended the expiration dates on licenses, if yours expired in the past couple months we will accept it.

o   A mask or face covering – we’ll be wearing one too!

o   If you’re a medical patient, you’ll need your med card as well!

When it is time to pick up your order, you will enter the dispensary where you will hand your ID to the person at reception. They will scan your ID to make sure it is a valid ID. This process doesn’t allow the dispensary to retain any of your information; the only time we keep any information is if you give us explicit permission. Once you’ve been checked in, you will be directed to a budtender who will confirm your order and accept your payment.

That’s it! You purchased cannabis from Consume! As you head home to enjoy your product, there’s a few things you need to remember. First, you can’t drive with open cannabis in the car. After you’ve purchased from Consume, the budtender will have sealed your bag- keep it that way until you get to your destination! In the off chance you get pulled over, you can show the police officer your sealed bag and receipt.

Second, cannabis is legal in Illinois and a number of other states, but it is still federally illegal. This means it is federally illegal to transport cannabis across state lines. Consume can not condone transporting any cannabis product between states.

Third, driving under the influence is still illegal! Just like you would when drinking, designate a sober driver or call a rideshare. In addition, you shouldn’t consume in public places, especially those where minors may be present. Be smart and consume responsibly!

We’ve worked hard to make this process a simple and safe as possible.  If you have any questions about ordering, purchase limits, Illinois cannabis laws or anything else contact your local Consume dispensary.
